My name is Katerina Sakelliou and I am writing to you from the beautiful island of Poros, where I was born. On this blog I will share with you my home, The Odyssey, my food and favorite recipes. I will also have guest bloggers who will be joining me on Poros and who will share our Greek adventures. So put your apron on, get the pots and pans out and start cooking! Or just travel all over Poros through my blog, meet its warm people and feel the sun on your skin while sitting at home.
I have been baking, cooking and roasting as long as I can remember. I learned from a great cook, my mother. When I was 18 years old I started working in our family restaurant Spiros. Look at our family picture, don't we all look adorable?
Of course everybody thought I was going to marry a nice Greek man, but life had something else in store for me - a Dutch man named Rik. Rik and his brother ended up on holiday in Greece after a coin toss. They found themselves in my parent's restaurant, poring over all the Greek menu items that they had never heard of before. Rik ordered arbitrarily and was not very enthusiastic about his choice - liver! I came to his rescue, swept away the liver and replaced it with a lifetime of great food - I'm still feeding him to this day!
Next, came our Big Fat Greek Wedding! Our 200 guests were eating in the family restaurant that accommodates 120 people. The bridal bouquet blew off of the roof of the car and Rik forgot his shoes. In front of the altar he was pledging his love for me in his brother-in-law's footwear, three sizes to big.
Soon afterwards Rik and I started Odyssey Centre and as part of this we established our very own cooking center. Now I could teach people how to make their own Greek dishes. A dream come true! When our daughter Dora was born, we could not be happier.
