Our Greek Sea Salt — A Little Jar of Home

Some of our favourite things in the kitchen are also the simplest.

A good olive oil. Fresh oregano. A squeeze of lemon. And, of course, sea salt.

Salt is something we use every single day, but we wanted to make our own little blend — something that brought together the flavours and aromas that remind us of home.

So, our Greek sea salt blend was born.

It starts with coarse sea salt, and then we add a little bit of everything we love:
Red pepper, black pepper, sage, oregano, bay leaf and anise seeds.

Nothing complicated.

Just good ingredients, mixed together.

A little jar of Greece

What I love about this mixture is that every ingredient brings something different.

The sea salt gives us the foundation.
The red pepper brings warmth.
Black pepper adds a little bite.
Sage brings an earthy, almost wild aroma.
Oregano gives it that unmistakable Greek character.
Bay leaf adds a gentle herbal fragrance.
And the anise seeds bring a tiny hint of sweetness and that familiar Mediterranean aroma.

Together, they make something much more interesting than ordinary salt.

We use it to season vegetables, potatoes, meat, fish and salads, or simply sprinkle a little over something that has just come off the grill.

And, honestly, sometimes the simplest meal is the best place for it.

A tomato from the garden, a little olive oil, some good bread and our sea salt mixture.

That's enough.

Made to share

This is also one of those little things we love sharing with the people who come to our cooking classes.

You can make it yourself at home, keeping the proportions exactly how you like them. Perhaps you want a little more oregano, more red pepper or extra anise. There is no strict rule.

That's the beauty of it.

Or, if you have tried ours and fallen in love with it, you can also take a little jar home with you.

I like the idea of our guests taking something small back with them — not just a souvenir, but something they can actually use.

Every time they reach for the jar, perhaps they'll remember a sunny Greek kitchen, a long table, the smell of herbs and the simple pleasure of cooking with good ingredients.

Simple things are often the most special

Looking at the recipes we have shared, I think this little sea salt blend might be the simplest of them all.

But perhaps that's why I love it.

Our food has never really been about making things complicated.

It is about good products, simple ideas, family recipes and sharing food with people we love.
Sometimes you need a long recipe and hours in the kitchen.
And sometimes all you need is a handful of herbs, some spices and a little Greek sea salt.
Mix them together.
Put them in a jar.

And let them make everything else taste just a little bit better.

That is our kind of cooking!
